Tsunami Kauai Day

Tsunami Kauai Day

The phone call recording came in at 6:00 am, followed by the Tsunami sirens. That really didn’t get me up, but when my neighbor came over, thats when I knew it was for real.

We had started loading up my Ford with essentials. The radio and TV stated that we had to evacuate by 9 am. I had reparked my Taxi and other van on higher ground. Thats it. We all got together and found this spot above, where we ordered pizza, had wine and beer, and waited out the warnings. Nothing happened and we went home.

Bucket List – What’s Yours?

Your Bucket List

Your Bucket List

I was thinking about creating a bucket list of things that I would like to do before I do. I think that everyone should create a bucket list early on, as we have a purpose, that part I got. But what else, that is not career oriented, that we want to experience in our life time? There should be at least 10 things, if not more. Places to travel, family and friends to grow old with, getting over certain fears, taking the time to just take a long walk across the US, whatever. It doesn’t have to be all about you, how about doing things for others, too.

My top 10 to get started:

1. Hike up to Machu Pichu

2. View the Pyramids

3. Take a trip on Virgin Galactic

4. Tandem Skydive

5. Pray with several different religions.

6. Take a day to cook a meal for homeless people in a city.

7. Volunteer in a country that you don’t know the language

8. Run for a government office

9. Find someone special to share all these things and grow old with.

10. I am on my death bed, I am looking back at my life, and this is how I would like to be remembered: Be a great father, loving husband, caring son, a close brother, a good uncle, and a participating family member, friend and member of society.

What is your bucket list?

Koloa Farmers Market

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Throughout the island, there are farmers markets. I live in Koloa, and ours is on Mondays at 12:00. They won’t let people in until exactly at high noon. This was my first time at the market, and I hope that I can continue to eat healthy. Some items I bought I am not sure what they are, but they are tasty. I had asked about some preparations, and got some good advice. If anyone knows different things to do with eggplant, please let me know.

Gabe’s Birthday Party

Saturday, September 19th, 2009

This was Gabe’s 41t birthday party that was held next door with a potluck BBQ. I had cooked all the meat and shared a Potato salad. There were others that brought in alot of interesting dishes. Gabe had gone diving right out in front from where I live and caught lobster (it’s in season).

The party went on for several hours with live entertainment from most family members. Gabe is Billy’s son, and they both play guitar. Gabe used to play in local reggae band. His girlfriend plays the violin. It was amazing to hear the combination. Toward the end of the night, we all sat on the stage, and it was like a back stage acoustic concert listening to Gabe and Jeremy perform all types of songs.

Couch Surfing

Sunday, September 6th, 2009

I am testing out Couchsurfing.org . This is a site where people from around the world are able to either host a couch or surf a couch. This site allows me to meet people around the world. I am hosting a couch for people who are planning on coming down to Kauai. So far, I have one confirmation for 2 French girls staying one night on Oct 14 th, and leaving the following afternoon to go to another couch in a nearby town (Hanapepe). There is another girl (Jessica O.) from Oregon who might stop by in mid-October, too.  She is planning on moving here.

If anyone is ever interested in coming to Kauai, let me know and I can check my availability. I have been aloof most of my life, and being in Kauai has changed that. I love meeting new people, having BBQ’s and Jam sessions. I am becoming a decent tour guide, and you will see that as I start posting more about the different hikes and camp trips (with pictures and hopefully videos) that I will be doing here.

Another note, might be going shark fishing tonight.

Listening to Billy and Jeremy

Listening to Billy and Jeremy

After Port Allen, we called up Billy and Terrie to come over for a jam session. After a bit, others stop by to listening. This is a great way to top off the day.

Sunday Best

Saturday, August 8th, 2009

This was an exciting day. I started the day by going on a 5 mile run from my condo to Sprouting Horn and back.

Lunch consisted of homegrown avacados mashed into guacamole with homegrown tangerines squeezed and mixed inside. That was placed into a BBQ chicken tortilla. Delicious.

The surf was looking small, so Jeremy and I went snorkeling at Brenneckes.

We were later invited to go on Captain Andy’s 2 hour cruise leaving Kukuiula harbor and going to Poi Pu. We had these drinks called Sneaky Tikis
