It is finally time to get a bicycle. I can’t believe that I haven’t done this yet. Today was sunny, clear, and hot. I looked on craigslist for a deal, and found a used bike with all the accessories (lock, speedometer, foot pump). I negotiated with the owner who was leaving back to the mainland anyway. Got it for $ 60.
I met up with Jeremy at the entrance of the part and proceeded to ride the 12 miles round trip. After the ride, it was time for Orange shaved ice.
We went to a party in Kalaheo that night with Rich and Justyn. Don’t have pictures, but it was a blast.
A decision has been made to make the move. But which island? I have only been to Oahu, and Maui. Both were getting expensive, and crowded. The other islands looked good through Google Maps, but in particular it was down to two. Kauai and the Big Island. The big island didn’t look like there was much surf areas (one of my criteria), so it looks like Kauai. Never been there, but I have been hearing great things. Decision is made to move to Kauai.
I started telling everyone, including Becca, whom I was holding a couple of things (i.e. plants and an old stereo with a sticker that said “Boys stink” and a picture of a bunny). She decided to move there, too. Then I told others, who spread the word. In particular, the word was spread to another friend of a friend, named Gabby, who was already living on the island, and my high school sweet heart friends Brandon and Laurie.
They lived in Poi Pu (Koloa town, on the southside). I thought (from Benjamin Button), that they most know something, and I should search there. And so I did.
Looking through different apartments and classifieds, I stumbled upon a listing on Craigslist and contacted the owner. Here is the reply that I had received:
Aloha Steve!
The condo is in Poipu Beach. The location is fantastic! It is on a quiet street 1/2 block to Brennecke’s Beach. It is a 2bed 1bath $1400 + utilities.
The condo is approx 800 Square feet and totally furnished and has a full kitchen. No smoke/pets. There is a laundry room on site, a barbeque grill / picnic area, and an assigned parking space.
I choose Kauai..the Garden Island
This seemed like a great deal, and the owners actually lived in Point Loma (San Diego). I contacted them immediately and set up a time to sign the contract. Done. Move in date : July 1, 2009.
I have been listening to “Beach in Hawaii” by Ziggy Marley. This song has been really sticking and playing in my head for a year now.
Then I watched the movie “The curious case of Benjamin Button”. There are alot of great quotes from the movie, one of my favorite quotes that I would like to share with everyone is this, as played in the movie below:
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”
Benjamin: I was thinking how nothing lasts, and what a shame that is.
Daisy: Some things last.
(my thought: Love lasts, and love is my religion by Ziggy Marley)

Along the way you bump into people who make a dent on your life. Some people get struck by lightning. Some are born to sit by a river. Some have an ear for music. Some are artists. Some swim the English Channel. Some know buttons. Some know Shakespeare. Some are mothers. And some people can dance.
(my thought:I have been very fortunate to meet interesting people, from homeless jewelry makers to future entrepreneurs..)

We’re meant to lose the people we love. How else are we supposed to know how important they are?
(my thought: I think about my family, and how prescious time is, I feel as though I’m not spending enough time with them, even of the phone. I love you and I am trying my best..I hope that you can forgive me for not spending enough time in the past.)

Your life is defined by its opportunities… even the ones you miss.
(my thought: if you see someone that you want to talk to, or do something that you are passionate about, just say or do something)

I wanna remember us just as we are now.
(my thought: Take a memory photo and try not to forget the best times )

Sometimes we’re on a collision course, and we just don’t know it. Whether it’s by accident or by design, there’s not a thing we can do about it.
(my thought: I hate this sometimes, as things were meant to be, and I have no control, but I wish that I will handle these situations better.)

You can be mad as a mad dog at the way things went; you can swear and curse the fates – but when it comes to the end, you have to let go.
(Quote by Jane: Letting go is really the only way to forgive, move on, and be at peace…).

This guy made my necklace with parts that he had saved and said he knew the had them for a reason
The necklace that was made by the homeless friend, as I am wearing it in my author picture
The actual necklace..I only had the pendent, he had the rest.. Perfect.
